Sports News] With only eight games remaining in La Liga, the season is nearing
its end. The prestigious La Liga Best Goalkeeper Award will be presented once
the season concludes. However, it is unfortunate that Real Madrid goalkeeper
Andriy Lunin will not be eligible to compete for this accolade. Lunin’s number
of appearances falls short of the required standard. Currently, there are eight
rounds of La Liga matches remaining. If Lunin were to participate in all of
them, his total number of appearances this season would reach 26, which is two
fewer than the minimum requirement of 28 games to contend for the title of La
Liga’s best goalkeeper. Despite his impressive performances and his
establishment as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, Lunin will
not be able to vie for the award. Thus far, he has featured in 18 league
matches, keeping nine clean sheets and conceding just 11 goals in total,
resulting in an average of only 0.61 goals per game. These statistics rank him
as the best among La Liga goalkeepers, making it a regrettable circumstance.
Excluding Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid, who secured the award in the 2019-2020
season, Iker Casillas was the last Real Madrid goalkeeper to be named La Liga’s
Best Goalkeeper back in the 2007-2008 season.
