[Saba Sports News] Former Ferrari driver Felipe
Massa has initiated legal proceedings against the FIA, Formula One management,
and former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone regarding the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Massa is seeking compensation of up to 82 million US dollars, which includes
lost prize money and potential deals he would have received as the F1 champion.
Media outlets such as “Sky Sports,” RMC, and “Turin Sports”
have confirmed that the London High Court has accepted the lawsuit. During the
2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Renault’s Nelson Piquet deliberately crashed into a
wall on lap 14, triggering the safety car. This allowed Piquet’s teammate,
Fernando Alonso, to benefit from an early tire change and ultimately win the
race and the championship. Meanwhile, Massa, who had started from pole
position, failed to score points due to a pit stop error. In 2009, the FIA
conducted an investigation into the incident and concluded that the Renault
team principal, technical director, and driver had conspired to cause the
crash. Massa had initially planned to sue the FIA as early as August of the
previous year, but he was unable to fully quantify his losses at that time,
resulting in a six-month delay in the progress of the legal proceedings.
