[Saba Sports News] Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Matheesha Pathirana has been declared fit to participate in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, according to an update from his manager Amila Kalugalage.
Pathirana, a key player in CSK’s bowling attack last season with 19 wickets, suffered a hamstring injury during the second T20I between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh earlier this month. This raised concerns about his availability for the initial stages of IPL 2024.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Kalugalage announced the good news on Friday, March 22. His post stated, “The answer to ‘Where’s Pathirana’. He is fit and ready to throw Thunder balls. Be ready. Finally a 📸 together with the Legend.”
While Pathirana is reportedly fit to play, there’s one more hurdle to clear. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) needs to grant him official clearance before he can join the CSK camp. Earlier reports suggested Pathirana might miss the first two to three matches of the tournament.
Pathirana’s return to fitness is a welcome boost for the Chennai Super Kings. His pace bowling abilities will add depth and variety to their attack, particularly in the death overs. CSK fans will be eagerly awaiting his return to the field and his contribution to their title defense.
