[Saba Sports News] Jacintha Kalyan is set to create history as the first female pitch curator in India for the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL), bringing her expertise in ground design and analysis to the forefront. Her journey to this pioneering role began with a position as a receptionist at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).
Over time, her interest in cricket pitches and grounds flourished, leading her to pass the BCCI’s Curator Examination last year. Jacintha has since played a key role in developing pitches for various domestic, international, and IPL matches at the KSCA, working alongside her male counterparts.
When asked about her family’s reaction to her groundbreaking achievement, Jacintha acknowledged the challenges posed by traditional gender roles. “Discussions about male dominance might arise, and there could be comments on my engagement in what’s traditionally seen as men’s work. What’s important to me is fulfilling my duties to advance the game and ensuring player satisfaction with the pitch and ground conditions,” she shared during a WPL interaction.
Jacintha also touched upon her husband, Kalyan Kumar’s, surprise and pride over her becoming India’s first female curator, a milestone he hadn’t foreseen despite her commitment to her work at the KSCA. Moreover, her son, Sharath Kalyan, expresses great pride in her achievements, often showcasing her work to others by searching for her name online.
“My husband knew of my dedication but didn’t expect me to break new ground in this way. Now, he, along with my son, who eagerly shares my story with others, celebrates my achievements,” Jacintha reflected, highlighting the support and pride her family holds for her trailblazing role in cricket.
