Only one week after Cricket Australia (CA) withdrew
two of his speaking engagements, Mitchell Johnson has mocked the organization’s
invitation to an awards ceremony.
After reading his highly inflammatory letter
criticising head selector George Bailey and David Warner before the first Test
in Perth last week, CA decided to cancel two of the retiring fast bowler’s
guest speaking engagements.
This summer, Johnson will be making radio commentary
with Triple M. Following the news that he had been removed from the paid
discussions, Johnson remained silent.
However, the former left-arm firebrand didn’t waste
any time taking to social media after being invited to the Australian Cricket
Awards in 2024.
“Is Cricket Australia serious??,” Johnson
wrote on Instagram, including a screenshot of his invite and the Rage Against
The Machine song ‘Take the Power Back’.
“Last week I was cancelled from 2 speaking
engagements. This week I’m invited to celebrate with them.”
In an incendiary article for the West Australian,
Johnson spoke out about old scars from Sandpapergate and tore into Warner, his
former Australia team-mate, regarding the opener’s “hero send-off”.
The 42-year-old expressed disapproval of Bailey’s
stance as well, claiming that Warner’s future decision-making was influenced by
his other former teammate.
Later in the year, Johnson said that the piece was
influenced by personal communications he had received from Warner and Bailey.
Warner has declined to fan the flames, arguing that
Johnson has a right to his own views.
