[Saba Sports News] Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, amidst the ongoing World Cup, is contemplating his future in white-ball cricket but clarifies that this World Cup is not his farewell from ODIs. His primary focus remains on Test cricket. With 230 ODI wickets at an average of 23.17, Starc has resolved not to participate in the next 50-over World Cup in 2027, acknowledging the lengthy gap of four years.
In Kolkata, Starc emphasized, “Test cricket is my top priority. I’m not ending my one-day cricket career yet. This is just another ODI for Australia, not the end.” He plans to continue playing beyond this World Cup.
Looking ahead, Starc is set for ODIs against West Indies in February, but his main attention is on Test cricket. Australia’s next ODI series is scheduled for September in England, with a Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025.
Reflecting on his current World Cup performance, Starc admitted he hasn’t been at his best, highlighting the challenges fast bowlers face in the format. “Bowling first with two fielders out has been tough. It’s about adapting to flat wickets and two new balls,” he said.
As Australia gears up for the semi-final against South Africa, Starc, who was rested in the final group game against Bangladesh, mentioned managing niggles since the Ashes. “The rest was necessary before the semi-finals, considering my condition post-Ashes,” he concluded.
