[Saba Sports News] India fast-bowler Mohammad Shami headed to Mumbai to consult a sports orthopaedic for his treatment of an ankle condition.
As per a PTI report, Shami is suffering from an issue with his ankle and for the same reason, he touched down in Mumbai to diagnose the condition.
Notably, Shami’s inclusion in the India squad for the South Africa Test series is subject to his fitness.
“It is not exactly an on-field injury. It is an ankle condition that has developed. Shami came to Mumbai to consult the doctors. He will also go to NCA for rehab and recuperation work,” a BCCI said as quoted to PTI.
“The national selectors wouldn’t have selected him had there not been a chance of him getting fit in time for the Boxing Day Test,” he added.
The first Test match of the upcoming series versus Australia is scheduled on December 26 in Centurion. Being one of the key pacers, India would want a fit Shami at their disposal.
Shami has been firing on all cylinders and hit his peak in the ODI World Cup 2023, ending as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He claimed 24 scalps in seven matches, including three fifers.
India would also play three T20Is and as many ODIs before the Test series. Shami has been rested for the white-ball assignment. Also, his ankle problem would not have allowed him enough recovery time to don the blue jersey.
