[Saba Sports News] Andy Flower recently praised the newly appointed head coach of the Indian team, ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir, after they secured their first T20I series under his leadership during the tour of Sri Lanka, Gambhir’s inaugural assignment.
Flower emphasized Gambhir’s essential qualities for a successful coach, though he pointed out Gambhir’s limited coaching experience. He remarked that Gambhir is more of an “inspirational leader” than a conventional coach.
“He’s certainly got some of the characteristics of a successful coach. He hasn’t really coached, though, has he? He is not your conventional coach. It would probably be better to describe him as an inspirational leader than a coach. That might be more accurate,” stated Flower.
As the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Flower observed that Gambhir exhibits profound self-belief and unwavering dedication to his principles.
He noted that Gambhir’s courage in adhering to his convictions would likely inspire those around him. Flower described Gambhir as someone with strong opinions, a clear vision, and a willingness to make tough calls.
“He’s a guy that has the conviction and courage of his own beliefs and principles that will allow other people to really want to follow him. Followers or teams like to trust that their leader has the courage of his convictions. And GG definitely has that. He has strong opinions. He knows where he wants to go. He’s willing to make tough decisions. He will have a very clear idea of the type of cricket that he wants his teams to play,” added Flower.
While Gambhir may not have the extensive resume of many international coaches, his unyielding attitude and strategic mindset could be crucial for the Indian team’s progress following their successful T20I series in Sri Lanka.
