[Saba Sports News] Former India skipper MS Dhoni is widely recognized for his sharp cricketing mind and exceptional judgment on the field.
His accuracy extends beyond his wicketkeeping skills to making near-perfect DRS calls, earning the system the nickname “Dhoni Review System” among fans, thanks to his consistent and brilliant decision-making.
Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary recently praised Dhoni for his decision-making skills, while also noting the significant improvement in current wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, attributing it to experience. Chaudhary highlighted the advantage wicketkeepers have in making accurate calls due to their position on the field.
“It’s not always the case that Dhoni is right, but he’s close to accuracy. He has a lot of insight into the game,” Chaudhary said in an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube.
Chaudhary also acknowledged Pant’s growth, saying, “Rishabh Pant has improved a lot. Experience plays a big role—you watch replays, reassess your calls. Wicketkeepers have the best vantage point, allowing them to follow the ball’s trajectory closely. In fact, some of the best umpires base their decisions on the movement of wicketkeepers.”
Chaudhary even suggested that Dhoni, with his keen decision-making skills, could make a great umpire if he’s willing to spend long hours on the field. “Dhoni is close to accuracy, often stopping others from appealing unnecessarily. He could become a good umpire if he’s ready to be on the field for seven hours,” Chaudhary added.
