[Saba Sports News] During a training session at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday, February 18, Comilla Victorians’ seasoned fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was struck on the head by a ball hit by team captain Litton Das.
The incident occurred as Mustafizur was walking back to his bowling mark and resulted in an injury that caused bleeding from the back of his head. Immediate first aid was provided on the field before he was stretchered off and taken to Imperial Hospital’s emergency unit for further evaluation and treatment.
Social media footage showed Mustafizur had his back to the ball when the accident happened, prompting quick response from players and staff. The team physio, Zahidul Islam, reported to ESPNcricinfo that Mustafizur sustained an open wound on the left parietal area of his head, which was treated with a compression bandage and stitches after a CT scan confirmed no internal bleeding.
“During practice, a ball hit directly at the left parietal area (head) of Mustafizur Rahman. There was an open wound at his parietal area and we have worked with compression bandage to stop bleeding and immediately had shifted him to Imperial hospital. After CT scan we are satisfied that he had only external injury. There is no intracranial bleeding. Now surgical team has given him stitches on the open wound,” Zahidul stated.
Comilla’s media manager, Sohanuzzaman Khan, noted that Mustafizur appeared to be behaving normally as preparations were made for his hospital transport. Mustafizur has been performing well in the current Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season, taking 11 wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 9.56. The Comilla Victorians, currently second in the BPL 2024 standings, are scheduled to face Sylhet Strikers in Chattogram on Monday, February 19.
