[Saba Sports News] Namibia has become the first team from the Africa Region Qualifier to book a spot in the 2024 T20 World Cup, achieving this feat with a notable 58-run win over Tanzania, their fifth straight victory in the tournament. This marks Namibia’s third successive T20 World Cup appearance, a testament to their rising stature in international cricket. They made a notable impact in their 2021 UAE debut, reaching the Super 12 stage, but were eliminated early in the 2022 edition in Australia.
The win against Tanzania was highlighted by JJ Smit’s vital 25-ball 40, supported by contributions from Zane Green and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, leading Namibia to a competitive score. Tanzania faltered in chasing 158, with Namibia’s bowling, particularly Gerhard Erasmus’s 2 for 17, proving too strong.
Namibia’s leadership in the Africa Region with 10 points is now firmly established. The ICC acknowledged their T20 World Cup 2024 qualification with a celebratory tweet.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe also remained in the fray, securing a comprehensive 144-run win over Rwanda. This victory, driven by Sikandar Raza’s 58 and significant innings from Tadiwanashe Marumani and Ryan Burl, helped Zimbabwe post a strong total of 215 for 4. This win significantly boosted Zimbabwe’s net run rate, propelling them ahead of Uganda and Kenya in the standings.
The race in the Africa Region Qualifier heats up, with Zimbabwe set to face Nigeria and Kenya in their bid to continue their World Cup qualifying campaign.
