[Saba Sports News] In preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Nepal’s senior men’s cricket team is scheduled to participate in a tri-series in India, named the ‘Friendship Cup’, aimed at enhancing Nepal Cricket’s capabilities. This initiative, orchestrated by the Board of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI), will see Nepal competing against teams from the Baroda Cricket Association and the Gujarat Cricket Association, with the series kicking off on March 31.
Nepal will open the tournament against Gujarat, and the final match is set for April 7.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has expressed enthusiasm about the Friendship Cup T20 tri-series, highlighting the involvement of teams from Nepal, Gujarat, and Baroda. The series is planned to unfold at the Sai Meghpan Sporrtslife (SMS) facilities in Vapi and is intended to become an annual event.
The tri-series arrives at an opportune moment for Nepal as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, to be hosted by the US and West Indies in June. Nepal, which has secured its spot in the tournament, views the tri-series as an essential preparatory step, offering them a chance to refine their gameplay and compete against strong BCCI state teams.
Nepal finds itself in Group D for the World Cup, alongside cricket giants such as Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands, underscoring the significance of this preparatory series.
