[Saba Sports News] New Zealand has added the uncapped fast bowler Ben Sears to their ODI squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, providing coverage for Kyle Jamieson who is currently managing a stiff left hamstring. Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach, highlighted the cautious approach they’re taking with Jamieson. He indicated that while Jamieson might be fit to play if absolutely necessary, they prefer not to risk aggravating his condition at the start of their home summer.
Stead, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo, stated, “We’re being careful with Kyle. At the start of our home season, we don’t want to push him too quickly. Ben is a good addition as he’s acclimated to the team and fully fit from playing for the Wellington Firebirds.”
Ben Sears, 25, is poised for his ODI debut, having already appeared in six T20Is. He was part of the ODI squad for the Chappell-Hadlee Series against Australia last year. With 36 wickets in 29 List-A matches, Sears brings potential to the New Zealand squad.
The series opener against Bangladesh is set for December 17 in Dunedin, with subsequent matches on December 20 and 23. The recent Test series in Bangladesh concluded with a 1-1 draw. Bangladesh won the first match, while New Zealand, led by Glenn Phillips’ exceptional play, won the second.
The New Zealand ODI squad includes Tom Latham (captain), Adi Ashok, Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, Henry Nicholls, Will O’Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi, Will Young, and Ben Sears.
