[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir recalled his ugly altercation with Virat Kohli, which took place during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
For the unversed, the incident happened after the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) league match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. After Kohli and Naveen-ul-Haq engaged in a heated exchange of words during the game and also while shaking hands, the then-LSG mentor Gambhir too got involved in a spat with his former India teammate.
Commenting on this, Gambhir defended his behaviour, stating as a mentor, he believes in standing by his players, which he thinks he did after the match ended.
“As a mentor, no one can come and walk over my players. I have got a very different belief. Till the time the game was on, I had no right to interfere but once the game was over if someone still gets into a heated argument with my players, I have all the right to defend them,” Gambhir said as quoted on an ANI podcast.
Both Kohli and Naveen buried the hatchet, ending their brief feud by hugging it out when India faced Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Meanwhile, Gambhir found himself at the heart of another controversy recently as S Sreesanth called him out, alleging that he tagged the fast-bowler a ‘fixer’ during a Legends League Cricket match.
