[Saba Sports News] Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins breathed a sigh of relief after an exhilarating IPL showdown against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, March 27. The match was filled with explosive batting displays, culminating in SRH securing a historic 31-run victory with a monumental IPL record total of 277 for three.
Reflecting on the thrilling match, Cummins expressed his excitement at winning despite the intense back-and-forth with boundaries. He described it as an insane game where boundaries seemed to be scored at will. He expressed his satisfaction at being on the winning side during the post-match presentation.
“That was insane. It felt like they were finding boundaries whenever they wanted. It was good to finish on the winning side. In IPL, we have played in front of big crowds and to see him (Abhishek Sharma) play with freedom was good to watch. You never played for 270. We wanted to play positively with the impact player and score aggressively,” Cummins said.
The match witnessed a remarkable display of power-hitting prowess from SRH’s Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who dominated the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. Sharma’s blistering 63 off just 23 balls, stealing the franchise’s fastest fifty record from Head, and Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 80 off 34 balls propelled SRH to rewrite the IPL history books with a colossal total of 277 for three.
Despite Mumbai Indians’ valiant efforts in pursuit of the daunting target, led by a stellar performance from Tilak Varma, the relentless pressure of the towering scoreboard proved insurmountable. Cummins praised the electrifying support of the crowd, emphasizing the significance of playing in front of the massive IPL audience.
“It’s obviously a good wicket. You have to accept that you will go for some boundaries. The cutters helped in the last phase. The first home game here. The crowd was very loud and it was amazing,” Cummins remarked, acknowledging the crowd’s role in SRH’s triumph.
