After winning the
previous PSL season by a margin of 17 runs on Wednesday, the two-time defending
champion Lahore Qalandars eventually secured their first victory.
Until last Saturday, when their match against Peshawar Zalmi was abandoned due
to rain, the Qalandars had lost six straight games.
Data-focused United, who like to pursue, was bowled out for 145. The fast
bowler Zaman Khan took 4 for 37 as The fielders for Qalandars made
numerous excellent catches in the outfield.
Before Rassie van
der Dussen (64), who is scheduled to return home and miss Qalandars’ next two
league games, guided Lahore to 162 for 7, scoring his fourth score of 50 or
more this season.
In the opening over of Shaheen Shah Afridi (2-32) Jahandad Khan produced a
breathtaking one-handed running catch at mid-off to remove Alex Hales for zero,
and United, the batting heavyweight, crumbled to 73 for 7 against pace in the
middle of their run chase.
In the last over, Zaman caught No. 11 Rumman Raees leg before wicket with a
yorker to wrap up the game. Faheem Ashraf scored an undefeated 41, and Azam
Khan (29) and Naseem Shah (27) also had brief cameos to lessen the loss.
Following his return
to the Qalandars fold after suffering a groyne injury in the opening game,
David Wiese escalated the pressure in the last overs, scoring a quick 24 off 11
balls without conceding a wicket. Captain Shadab Khan deployed seven bowlers, with
the exception of off-spinner Salman Ali Agha.
With two games remaining, Qalandars leads United with three points from eight
games, while United currently has seven.
