[Saba Sports News] F1 legend Ralf Schumacher
recently addressed the current state of Formula 1 teams in an interview with
the media. Ralf expressed his opinion on the matter, emphasizing the importance
of teams giving more consideration to young drivers who have not yet been given
a chance to compete and are limited to simulator work. He cited the example of
Oscar Piastri, the 2021 F2 champion who was granted an opportunity in F1,
contrasting it with the lack of F1 seats for the 2022 and 2023 F2 champions,
Felipe Drugovich and Bo Schell. Ralf stated, “It is crucial to have someone
come in and achieve good results. Teams are often hesitant to give new drivers
a chance on the field.” The editor believes that teams’ reluctance to
field young drivers stems from various concerns. Gaining entry into F1 and
securing a racing opportunity is a challenging endeavor. F1 is one of the most
demanding motorsports worldwide, requiring drivers to possess exceptional
technical skills, experience, and physical fitness. Additionally, teams
consider multiple factors when selecting drivers, including performance,
sponsorship funds, team strategy, and more.
