[Saba Sports News] Star spinner Rashid Khan will skip the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. After missing the 2023-24 edition due to injury, Rashid has decided not to register for the upcoming player draft on September 1. He has already informed the Adelaide Strikers of his decision, disappointing fans who hoped for his return.
Rashid previously boycotted BBL over Cricket Australia’s stance on Afghanistan’s women’s cricket but later registered for the tournament, only to miss it due to injury. While some speculate that his absence this year is another protest, sources indicate that his decision is due to a busy schedule. Rashid has committed to MI Cape Town for the SA20, which overlaps with BBL, making it difficult for him to participate in both tournaments.
Rashid holds the record for the most wickets by an overseas player in BBL history, with 98 wickets in 69 matches for the Strikers. Despite his absence, Strikers captain Alex Carey is set to announce a new multi-year deal on August 20.
