Adding to the excitement, Kayo Sports, the official broadcaster of the BBL, has introduced former Indian cricketer and celebrated commentator Ravi Shastri. Shastri, known for his dynamic commentary, made his BBL debut during the fifth match of the tournament between the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers on December 11 at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground in Launceston.
Shastri received a hearty welcome from co-commentator Mark Howard, who referred to him as a global broadcasting icon, while Aaron Finch in the commentary box hailed him as the ‘king of commentary’ and ‘voice of cricket’. Shastri’s iconic voice has been a part of many memorable moments in Indian cricket, including Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes and India’s World Cup triumphs in 2007 and 2011. His presence in the BBL is expected to draw more Indian viewers, captivated by his energetic commentary style.
In the match itself, after being asked to bat first, Hobart Hurricanes set a target of 135/8, with Caleb Jewell contributing a top score of 42 (24). Sydney Sixers’ Tom Curran excelled with the ball, taking 3/19 in four overs. The Sixers then reached the target in 19.2 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 60 (50), securing a six-wicket win and their second consecutive victory of the season, leading them to the top of the points table.
