[Saba Sports News] Delhi Capitals ended their seven-year partnership with Ricky Ponting in July, after he took charge in 2018.
Co-owner Parth Jindal revealed the franchise’s interest in hiring an Indian coach to focus on scouting and developing local talent, a role Ponting couldn’t fulfill. Ponting agreed, stating that the Capitals wanted to move in a different direction.
Despite the split, the 49-year-old Ponting is eager to return to the IPL in 2025. With several franchises searching for new coaches, Ponting could be a good fit. Before joining the Capitals, he coached the Mumbai Indians until Mahela Jayawardene replaced him.
“I’d love to coach in the IPL again,” Ponting shared in the latest ICC Review episode. “I’ve enjoyed every season, whether as a player or coach. My time at Delhi didn’t bring the silverware we aimed for, but I wish them all the best. There might be opportunities for me to coach in the IPL again next season.”
Ponting also thanked DC for the opportunity and expressed his readiness to return to coaching in the IPL in the future.
