[Saba Sports News] Indian captain Rohit Sharma has achieved another remarkable feat by equaling Chris Gayle’s record of 331 sixes in One-Day International (ODI) cricket.
Sharma matched this milestone during the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka on August 7 in Colombo. Despite India’s 110-run defeat and Sri Lanka’s first series win against India since 1997, Sharma’s performance stood out. His 35-run innings off 20 balls included one six, tying him with the legendary West Indian.
Sharma’s ability to hit sixes has made him a standout player throughout his career. With 331 ODI sixes, he is now second only to Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, who holds the record with 351 sixes. Sharma aims to surpass this mark and become the greatest six-hitter in ODI history.
Additionally, Sharma became the fourth Indian batter to score over 2,000 runs against Sri Lanka in ODIs, joining Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. In the match, Sri Lanka posted 248/7, with notable contributions from Avishka Fernando (96), Kusal Mendis (59), and Pathum Nissanka (45). Riyan Parag, debuting for India, took 3/54.
Despite a strong start from Sharma, India’s batting lineup faltered, leading to their loss.
