[Saba Sports News] Bangladesh emerged victorious against Nepal by 21 runs in a low-scoring match at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on Monday, June 17. The on-field tension escalated during a heated exchange between Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel.
The incident occurred in the third over of Nepal’s chase of 107, with the visitors struggling at 9/2. Tanzim, having already dismissed openers Kushal Bhurtel and Anil Sah, bowled two dot balls to Paudel, adding to the pressure. As the over ended, Tanzim and Paudel exchanged hostile words and stares, prompting the umpires to intervene and ask Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to calm the situation.
Tanzim ultimately had the last laugh, dismissing Paudel for one in the fifth over. His figures of 4/7 in four overs were crucial in restricting Nepal to just 85, securing Bangladesh’s spot in the Super Eight. They will join India, Australia, and Afghanistan in Group 1 for the next stage of the tournament.
Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 106 after opting to bat first. Nepal’s chase faltered at 24/4 in six overs due to excellent bowling from Bangladesh’s seamers. Despite efforts from Kushal Malla (27) and Dipendra Singh Airee (25), the target proved too challenging. Mustafizur Rahman (3/7) and Shakib (2/17) provided strong support, but it was Tanzim’s opening burst that set the stage for the 21-run win.
Bangladesh now aims to capitalize on their Super Eight opportunity, starting with a match against former champions Australia on June 21, followed by games against India and Afghanistan.
