[Saba Sports News] Indian cricket’s world champion skipper Rohit Sharma found himself in a funny situation during a promotional event in Dallas, USA. Fans began chanting the name of Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, prompting a calm and humorous response from Rohit that has since gone viral on social media.
The chants referred to a memorable moment from the T20 World Cup 2024, where Sharma scored 29 runs off a single over from Starc in a crucial Super Eight match, helping India set a commanding total against Australia in Saint Lucia.
At the launch of a cricket academy in Dallas, where the 37-year-old was present with his family, fans playfully heckled him with “Mitchell Starc” chants. The event host quickly intervened, asking the crowd to be respectful. Sharma responded coolly with, “Calm down, guys,” drawing loud cheers and diffusing the situation with humor.
This incident comes after Rohit Sharma’s recent retirement from T20 International cricket, following India’s victorious campaign in the 20-team tournament. Despite stepping away from T20Is, Sharma continues to be crucial in ODIs and Tests. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Sharma will lead India in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 and the World Test Championship 2025 final.
Sharma ended his T20I career as the format’s highest scorer with 4,231 runs in 159 games and holds the joint record for most centuries (five) in T20 internationals.
The Men in Blue will next face Sri Lanka in three T20Is and three ODIs starting on July 27. With Gautam Gambhir as the new Head Coach, it will be interesting to see how the team performs under new leadership.
