[Saba Sports News] India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad finally came into his own in international cricket, smashing a hundred in the T20I against Australia at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.
This is Gaikwad’s maiden international hundred. He also became the first Indian to score a century versus Australia in T20Is.
Gaikwad was subjected to criticism in the previous T20I as failed to get going, contributing 58 runs off 43 deliveries on a pitch where India ended up with a score of 235/4 in 20 overs.
He started off in a similar fashion on Tuesday, accumulating 22 runs in the first 22 balls he faced. However, an unreal acceleration ensued as the 26-year-old hammered 101 runs off his next 35 deliveries.
Gaikwad reached his ton in the final over of the innings, spanking the ball for a six to bring up the landmark figure. Glenn Maxwell was entrusted with the duties to finish off well, getting handed the ball for the last over, however, the off-spinner conceded 30 runs, with Gaikwad hitting three sixes and two fours.
Gaikwad’s century took India to a total of 222 runs. Notably, the Men in Blue have went to record 200-plus runs in every game they have played in the ongoing series so far.
