[Saba Sports News] Netherlands captain Scott Edwards reflected on his team’s performance in the ODI World Cup match against South Africa. The Netherlands secured a 38-run victory over South Africa in Dharamsala, marking their first win against a Test-playing nation in the tournament’s history. Edwards expressed his satisfaction with the win and stated that it boosts their confidence for the remaining matches.
“We came into this tournament with high expectations, we feel like we’re playing good cricket, we’ve got a lot of good players… but in saying that, we know that there are nine other very good sides here. So, yeah, very excited to get our first win out of the way after three games and hopefully a few more to come,” said Edwards.
He highlighted the importance of building partnerships and mentioned that the team managed to put together crucial partnerships in the match against South Africa, helping them achieve a competitive total.
Edwards played a significant role in the match, coming in to bat at number 7 when the Netherlands were struggling at 82/5. He formed a 64-run partnership with Roelof van der Merwe for the eighth wicket and later had a 41-run stand with Aryan Dutt for the ninth wicket. Edwards remained unbeaten with a brilliant 78 off 69 deliveries, earning him the Player of the Match award.
