[Saba Sports News] The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will continue to play for the national team despite being named in a First Information Report (FIR) related to a murder case.
The controversy erupted when Shakib was implicated in an FIR during a period of civil unrest in Bangladesh. In response, Shajib Mahmood Alam, a Supreme Court lawyer, sent a legal notice to the BCB demanding Shakib’s immediate suspension from all forms of cricket, citing ICC rules.
Despite this, the BCB has stood by Shakib. “He [Shakib] will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding his removal, and we responded that he will keep playing,” BCB president Faruque Ahmed shared.
The BCB maintains that the FIR is still in its early stages and does not constitute proof of guilt. The board has also expressed its willingness to provide legal support to Shakib if needed.”
The FIR is in its initial stage, and there are many steps to follow. Until he is proven guilty, he will continue to play. The Bangladesh team is heading to India after the Pakistan series, and we want him for that series too. He is our contracted player, and we’ll offer legal assistance if necessary,” Ahmed added.
Additionally, Shakib has been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for Surrey in a County game against Somerset in England from September 9 to 12, before joining the national team for two Tests and three T20Is against India. A BCB official told Cricbuzz, “He [Shakib] hasn’t played red-ball cricket for a while, so we’ve given him an NOC to play for Surrey to help him adjust to red-ball cricket.”
