[Saba Sports News] Shan Masood had a heated exchange with umpires Adrian Holdstock and Richard Kettleborough after being controversially dismissed during the second session on Day 1 of the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The two-match Test series began on August 21, but play was delayed due to a wet outfield. Bangladesh struck early, dismissing Abdullah Shafique in the fourth over. Shan Masood came to the crease but was dismissed by Shoriful Islam in the seventh over.
The left-arm seamer bowled a short-of-length delivery that nipped back, passing Masood’s bat and landing in wicketkeeper Litton Das’ gloves. Although the initial appeal was turned down by Holdstock, Bangladesh reviewed the decision.
The UltraEdge showed a spike after the ball had passed the bat, but third umpire Michael Gough still ruled in favor of the bowling team. Masood, visibly frustrated, exchanged words with the on-field umpires before leaving the field with just six runs off 11 balls.
Pakistan struggled early, with captain Babar Azam dismissed for a two-ball duck, leaving them at 16/3. Vice-captain Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub then countered with an unbeaten partnership of 65 off 77 balls, bringing Pakistan to 81/3 at the Tea break. Bangladesh will need to regroup and devise better strategies to break this partnership in the final session.
