[Saba Sports News] The Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Gujarat Titans IPL 2024 match on Thursday may have been a washout, but the camaraderie between players and their families made it special. SRH all-rounder Abhishek Sharma and GT captain Shubman Gill shared a touching moment in the stands of the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, captivating the internet.
As rain prevented play, Abhishek brought Gill to the stands where his mother, Manju, and sister, Komal, were seated. The Sharma family greeted Gill warmly, and he reciprocated with a heartfelt gesture. Gill bent down to touch Manju Sharma’s feet and shared warm smiles and a handshake with Komal. Manju affectionately patted Gill’s cheeks.
This public interaction highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two cricketers, who grew up playing age-group cricket in Punjab and debuted in first-class cricket for Punjab in 2017. Both represented India at the U19 World Cup in 2018, winning the title. Gill emerged as the top scorer for India in that tournament, while Abhishek’s all-round talent also shone through. They share a mentor in former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Gill and Abhishek have performed well in this IPL season. Although GT didn’t make the playoffs, Gill scored 426 runs in 12 matches with an average of 38 and a strike rate of 147, earning praise for his captaincy. Abhishek, enjoying his best IPL season, has scored 401 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 205.6, with 35 sixes – the highest in the tournament.
