[Saba Sports News] Mohammed Siraj, a key figure in India’s bowling lineup during the T20 World Cup 2024, helped the team secure their first ICC title in 11 years. Recognizing his contributions, the Telangana government appointed him as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), under the direction of the state’s Director General of Police (DGP). Siraj expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also pledged a residential plot and a government job to him in July.
Accompanied by MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav and TGMREIS Chairman Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi, Siraj reported to DGP Jitender on October 11.
Although he lacks the formal educational qualifications for a Group-I role, the Cabinet granted him an exemption to encourage sportspersons.
In August, Telangana also allocated a 600-square-yard plot in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills to Siraj, alongside similar provisions for shooter Esha Singh and boxer Nikhat Zareen, who joined the police as a DSP in September.
Since his debut in 2017, Siraj has played 29 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, forming a formidable bowling trio with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
He is set to return to action in India’s upcoming Test series against New Zealand, where he’ll take the new ball alongside Bumrah.
