Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up a strong fight, but Sri Lanka took just over an hour on the final morning to remove the final three Bangladeshi wickets and win by a commanding 192 runs in Chattogram. In addition to winning the series 2-0, Sri Lanka gained crucial World Test Championship points that lifted them to a tie for third place in the standings. Bangladesh, on the other hand, fell to ninth.
The visitors finished this game by adhering to their plans, just like they had done with the rest of the series. Although batting conditions were still favourable, one had to exercise patience because to the inconsistent bounce and some balls that sprayed off the surface. Mehidy displayed flashes of daring strokeplay combined with tenacious defence, but Sri Lanka was constantly on the attack.
When Taijul Islam drove at one that gripped and spun away from Kamindu Mendis, he was the first to tumble. Nishan Madushka skilfully caught the edge at gully, capping a string of outstanding close-range catches made by the Sri Lankan opener.
For a brief while after that, Hasan Mahmud displayed strong defensive skills, but as soon as the new ball was taken shortly before the drinks break, the death knell started to sound. Lahiru Kumara took over at this point, hitting Khaled Mahmud with a blistering yorker after launching a stinging bouncer that Mahmud could only parry to Madushka at short leg.
Mehidy, stranded at the other end on 81 off 110, wondered what could have been if the other batters from Bangladesh had put up a comparable fight.
Kumara finished with 4 for 50 for Sri Lanka. After making an undefeated 92 in the first innings, Kamindu finished with a career-best 3 for 32, earning him the titles of Player-of-the-Series and Player-of-the-Match. The seamers of Sri Lanka finished the series having claimed 33 of the 40 opposition wickets that were available.
