[Saba Sports News] Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh has shared his thoughts on the recent spat between David Warner and Mitchell Johnson. Johnson’s candid critique of Warner in a column has sparked widespread interest.
The ex-fast bowler criticized Warner for his perceived arrogance and lack of respect, also referencing Warner’s role in the infamous sandpaper scandal. Johnson argued that Warner does not deserve a grand farewell from cricket.
Johnson also targeted chief selector George Bailey in his column, referring to a text message he received after criticizing the decision to rest West Australian fast bowler Lance Morris from a Sheffield Shield match. In response to this controversy, Waugh emphasized the importance of resilience among players and their ability to accept criticism. “They are both adults who are entitled to their opinions and should be able to handle criticism,” Waugh commented to The Sydney Morning Herald.
In the midst of this, Johnson is set to take up his role as a commentator for the upcoming Test series between Australia and Pakistan, despite the concerns raised due to his comments about Warner. Reports confirm that Johnson, initially not listed in the 18-member commentary team, will indeed be part of the commentary for the series starting on December 14.
As for Warner, he faces the challenge of ending his notable Test career on a high, especially after a period of inconsistent performances. He aims to prove his mettle in this series, which is being seen as his swansong in Test cricket. Meanwhile, Pakistan is currently warming up with a practice match against the PM XI.
Australia’s squad for the first Test against Pakistan includes Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Steve Smith, Mitch Starc, and David Warner.
