[Saba Sports News] On the day the 2024 F1 season
pre-season test ended, Netflix launched the sixth season of the F1 documentary
series “Drive to Survive.” The new season focuses on various aspects
of the F1 world, including the dominant season of Red Bull Racing and the
highly discussed transfer of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. The first episode of
the documentary delves into the truth behind Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. It
features behind-the-scenes footage, including a private meeting between
Hamilton and Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff regarding their future plans.
Wolff expressed his desire not to wait until the new rules were introduced in
2026 to give Hamilton a chance to fight for an eighth world championship title,
referring to Hamilton as the “old man.” Both parties reached an
agreement on this matter. However, due to the introduction of new “ground
effect” technical rules in the 2022 season, Mercedes found it challenging
to compete for the championship. Hamilton, who was on track to finish in fourth
place, grew impatient and decided to make a final attempt at Ferrari in the
2025 season. The documentary highlights Ferrari’s “rich family
background” and portrays it as an attractive option for Hamilton. The new
season offers insights into the dynamics and decision-making processes within
the F1 world, with a particular focus on Hamilton’s transfer to Ferrari.
