[Saba Sports News] The Minnesota Timberwolves have secured a key piece for their future before the offseason begins.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday that the Timberwolves finalized a contract extension with starting point guard Mike Conley. The agreement, worth $21 million over two years, ensures Conley avoids free agency this summer, extending his tenure in Minnesota until 2026.
Despite being 36 years old, Conley, who earned All-Star honors in 2021 with the Utah Jazz, remains a pivotal player for the Timberwolves. Currently, as the Western Conference’s top seed entering the season’s second half, the Timberwolves benefit from Conley’s averages of 10.6 points and 6.4 assists per game, along with impressive 44/44/92 shooting splits. His leadership and defensive acumen are crucial to Minnesota’s unexpected success.
With substantial financial commitments already in place, including Anthony Edwards’ upcoming five-year max extension potentially worth $260 million, the Timberwolves are heavily invested in their roster’s future. However, re-signing Conley at a yearly rate of just over $10 million is widely viewed as a prudent decision for the team.
