[Saba Sports News] After Babar Azam’s resignation on Wednesday as the captain of Pakistan across all formats, the PCB swiftly appointed ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20I skipper of the team.
The 23-year-old pacer, Shaheen, expressed his gratitude on social media for being chosen as the leader, stating, “I am honoured and thrilled to lead our national T20 cricket team. Thank you to the Pakistan cricket board and fans for their trust and support.”
Shaheen further mentioned that he is determined to give his 100% to achieve success, with his first captaincy assignment being against New Zealand. Pakistan will play five T20Is versus the Kiwi side, starting from January 12 in Auckland.
“I’ll give my best to uphold the team spirit and bring glory to our nation on the cricket field. Our success lies in unity, trust and relentless effort. We are not just a team; we are a brotherhood, a family. Together, we rise!” Shaheen added.
Having represented Pakistan in 52 T20I matches, Shaheen has clinched 64 wickets with an average of 22.73 and an economy rate of 7.63. Shaheen’s leadership qualities were demonstrated well while he captained Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, where they secured back-to-back titles in the last two seasons of the tournament.
