[Saba Sports News] Australian cricketer Travis Head made history with a blistering century in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against India. However, the 30-year-old opener regrets the boozy celebrations that followed, drawing comparisons to the legendary David Boon and his infamous 52-beer flight.
Head’s impressive 137 off 120 balls led Australia to a six-wicket victory, silencing the Ahmedabad crowd and securing their sixth ODI World Cup. While the win called for celebrations, Head admits his antics went overboard, with videos surfacing on social media.
“It’s a hard one to sum up. I think I’m just being me, and that’s the beauty of Pat [Cummins] and Ronnie [Andrew McDonald] and what they’ve brought to the team. In terms of the Boony stuff, it’s probably the only downfall from the World Cup. The post-celebration stuff that snuck out, some of the carry-on, I would have liked to not go out,” Head told News Corp.
Head’s actions drew comparisons to David Boon, who famously drank 52 beers on a flight to England before the 1989 Ashes series. While flattered by the association, Head expressed concern over the perception it created.
“Just for some of the perception stuff. A bit like Boony with the flight,” Head said in a podcast, expressing his disappointment. Now a father, Head recognizes the importance of setting a good example for his daughter, Milla Paige Head.
Meanwhile, Australia is currently competing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States and has advanced to the Super Eight.
