[Saba Sports News] Former U-19 World Cup champion Unmukt Chand has recently shifted focus away from the Indian cricket scene and relocated to the United States, obtaining citizenship there. Despite being one of the most seasoned players at the highest level, Chand expressed disappointment at being overlooked for the five-match T20I series against Canada.
On March 29, 2024, USA Cricket announced the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Canada, starting April 7. Unfortunately, Chand’s name was absent from the 15-player squad, with three additional members listed as reserves. This omission dims Chand’s prospects for selection in the squad for the T20 World Cup, to be co-hosted by the USA in June.
In response to the snub, Chand took to social media platform X to share a poignant message, expressing his thoughts on the need for individuals to actively advocate for change and stand up for what is right.
Chand has previously played in the IPL for teams like Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians. However, his performances were underwhelming, amassing only 300 runs in 21 matches. He retired from Indian cricket in August 2021 before seeking opportunities in the USA for his cricketing career.
During the Major League Cricket 2023, Chand represented the Texas Super Kings, but his performances were modest, scoring only 68 runs in four innings.
Meanwhile, former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, known for his stint in 31 T20Is for New Zealand and as part of the team that finished runners-up in the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015, was included in the 15-player squad to face Canada in the upcoming T20I series at the Prairie View Cricket Complex, Texas.
