[Saba Sports News] Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached another IPL final with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday evening. As the KKR players celebrated, they credited co-owner Shah Rukh Khan for his inspirational role as an elder brother figure. Venkatesh Iyer praised the Bollywood actor, saying, “It speaks volumes of the man he (SRK) is. We have all seen him on the screen, mesmerizing people with his aura, not just as an owner but as an elder brother guiding us constantly,” Iyer said in a video posted by KKR on social media.
Iyer also highlighted SRK’s support and pep talks, particularly during tough times. “His pep talks have lifted not just me but also players like Nitish Rana, who was dealing with injury. Coming back and performing is a big task. He’s a great franchise owner,” Iyer added.
KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer also praised SRK, noting that his presence boosts the team’s intensity and approach. “His presence itself brings zest to the team environment. The attitude and approach automatically change. It’s all in the perception,” Shreyas said.
KKR produced a clinical performance to outclass the 2016 finalists. Mitchell Starc’s three wickets in the powerplay hampered SRH’s innings, and they were bowled out for 159 in 19.3 overs. In reply, Venkatesh (51*) and Shreyas (58*) led an unbroken 97-run stand, making the chase look easy.
This marks the fourth time Kolkata has advanced to the finals in the tournament’s history. They will now fly to Chennai for the final on May 26.
