[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the senior men’s team following Rahul Dravid’s tenure, which ends on June 30 after the T20 World Cup 2024. Gambhir recently attended an interview with the CAC via Zoom, and all paperwork will be completed within a week before the official announcement.
After Dravid’s term ends, India will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series starting July 6. Gambhir will not join the team for this series; instead, NCA chief VVS Laxman will travel with a young squad. Laxman, who has stepped in multiple times in Dravid’s absence, will continue in this role. Under Laxman’s leadership, India won the Asian Games in October 2023 and several other bilateral series.
Gambhir is expected to join the team for the Sri Lanka series starting on July 27, with many senior players likely to return to the squad. A BCCI source told Hindustan Times, “There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new-look squad to Zimbabwe.”
Additionally, former India Women head coach WV Raman is likely to join the team as the batting coach, though BCCI has yet to confirm this. Jonty Rhodes is a leading candidate for the fielding coach position.
