[Saba Sports News] Former England skipper Michael Vaughan and former India opener Wasim Jaffer recently had a humorous exchange on social media.
The banter started after India’s disappointing 2-0 ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, their first ODI appearance since their World Cup final defeat to Australia in 2023.
During a Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter), Vaughan playfully asked Jaffer about the series result, saying, “Hi, Wasim… What was the recent ODI series result in Sri Lanka? I have been away and missed it. Hope all is well.”
Jaffer responded with a witty remark, referencing England’s poor Ashes record in Australia: “I’ll put it in Ashes terms for you, Michael. India won as many games in that series as England has won in Australia in the last 12 years.”
Jaffer had also previously expressed concern, not just over the series loss, but about India’s limited ODI preparation before the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, noting, “Wins and losses are part of the game. However, it’s a point of concern that India has just 3 ODIs before the Champions Trophy.”
The series saw India struggle against spin, with Dunith Wellalage’s five-wicket haul and Avishka Fernando’s 96-run knock for Sri Lanka sealing the series win for the hosts.
