[Saba Sports News] Team India lost their three-game ODI series to Sri Lanka, marking their first ODI series defeat to the island nation in 27 years. After a tied first match, India fell in the second and third ODIs, allowing Sri Lanka to clinch the series in a significant upset.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer voiced his concerns about the limited number of ODIs India has before the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Under new head coach Gautam Gambhir, India’s first ODI assignment ended in disappointment, and Jaffer took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts. He acknowledged that wins and losses are part of the game but emphasized his worry over India having just three ODIs to prepare for the Champions Trophy.
“SL played better cricket and deserve the series win. It doesn’t worry me that India lost a series. Wins and losses are part of the game. However, it’s a point of concern that India has just 3 ODIs before the Champions Trophy,” Jaffer posted.
In the third ODI, Sri Lanka batted first, posting 248 runs, and then bowled India out for just 138, winning by 110 runs. After the game, India captain Rohit Sharma credited Sri Lanka for their better performance and admitted there were areas where India needed to improve.
“When you’re playing for India, there’s no complacency. We have to give credit where it’s due—Sri Lanka played better than us. We didn’t play good cricket through the series, and that’s why we lost. There are a lot of areas we need to focus on rather than just the positives,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
