With 50 balls remaining, West Indies defeated Scotland by six wickets to win their first match of the T20 World Cup in Dubai. Their victory increased their net run rate to 1.154, placing them atop Group B’s standings. Scotland has now lost two straight games, but the margin of defeat may have even greater negative effects on their prospects of qualifying.
A mediocre chase was led by Qiana Joseph’s 31 off 18, but the game was quickly concluded by Deandra Dottin (28 off 15) and Chinelle Henry (18 off 10). West Indies bowlers set up the victory, limiting Scotland to 99 for 8.
After her explosive start to Scotland’s innings, which produced figures of 1 for 10, Henry was voted Player of the Match. Her boundary-filled blow then secured a convincing victory.
All the important stats showed that Scotland was just second best, with only Ailsa Lister and Kathryn Bryce recording meaningful innings. While this was going on, they were far superior than their opponents at picking up wickets and catching with the ball, but they were unable to stop the run flow, which is vital when trying to defend a low score.
