[Saba Sports News] The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has elected Ajinkya Naik (37) as its youngest president ever, defeating Sanjay Naik by 107 votes. Ajinkya received 221 votes to Sanjay’s 114.
Both candidates were incumbent office-bearers, with Ajinkya serving as secretary and Sanjay as vice-president.
Ajinkya joins the ranks of notable MCA leaders such as Sharad Pawar, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ashish Shelar, and Manohar Joshi. “Mr. Pawar has been an inspiration and leader who went on to become BCCI and ICC head,” Ajinkya said after his unexpected win.
The election was held due to the untimely death of president Amol Kale. Ajinkya dedicated his victory to Kale, promising to uphold his legacy.
“I thank all the voters who supported me. This victory is a testament to Amol Kale’s exemplary achievements. My efforts will be to replicate his commitment and dedication to improving Mumbai cricket and continue his legacy,” he said.
Ajinkya also plans to enhance cricket at Mumbai’s famous Maidans and organize a career fair by inviting government and corporate leaders to provide jobs for Mumbai players. “Mumbai cricketers often lack stable employment, relying on temporary contracts. I will urge government and corporate entities to employ Mumbai players,” he added.
