[Saba Sports News] During the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, batters faced a tough challenge on the surfaces in the USA and the Caribbean. This struggle was evident for all teams, with even the best batters finding it difficult to gain any momentum. However, Bangladeshi batters struggled the most, recording the lowest collective batting average (15.89) among the Super Eights teams.
Highlighting this issue, vice-captain and pacer Taskin Ahmed acknowledged that every team’s batting lineup faced difficulties, especially in the US. Taskin admitted he hadn’t seen such a prolonged slump for Bangladeshi batters in his decade-long career and expressed hope for a swift turnaround. “Every team’s batting department suffered in the USA this time. We got better wickets in the West Indies. I haven’t seen such a long bad patch for the batters in my ten years playing for Bangladesh. I hope it goes away quickly,” Taskin told reporters at the Dhaka airport.
Taskin candidly admitted that their T20I batting statistics had never been impressive, but emphasized ongoing efforts to improve. He urged fans to look beyond the low points, acknowledging their frustration while assuring them of the team’s commitment to better performance. “We never had great numbers in T20Is. We are improving slowly. Your frustration is expected. We will give you a good win. You have to keep faith in us. We will give it our best,” Taskin added.
Regarding the underperformance of senior players like Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah, Taskin noted that their lackluster form affected the team on the field but not off it. He emphasized their positive influence as team players and expressed hope for recovery and better performance soon. “The seniors’ off-form had an effect on the team, but not off the field. They are great team men. It is normal for a team to have problems when important players are not in form. I am hopeful we can recover and play better soon,” Taskin shared.
